However, the answer to your dreams very well could be just a stone’s throw away! Nestled into the bustling downtown Greeneville district of beautiful Tennessee is a rare gem among historic hotels. Built back in 1884, the General Morgan Inn has been the go-to Tennessee wedding venue for many brides and grooms in its 128 years – and for good reason! The venue offers stunning views, impeccable service, and downright gorgeous rooms for your guests to stay in while celebrating with you. What’s not to love?

That’s exactly why I chatted recently with Bob Cantler, Vice President at Morgan Inn Corporation (parent company of the General Morgan Inn), and Patricia Bohon, Director of Food and Beverage at the General Morgan Inn. The two graciously allowed me to interview them about the many attributes that an historic hotel such as the General Morgan Inn offers to brides and grooms, unique from all other wedding venues. Read on for three great reasons to consider an historic hotel for the biggest day of your life!

1. Historic hotels require very little decorating.

With natural grace and turn-of-the-century décor, you won’t have need to “transform” an historic hotel for your wedding. Its design is likely already timeless, elegant, and incredibly impressive for your guests!

Renovated in 1996, the General Morgan Inn boasts a gorgeous garden terrace on the rooftop from which you can see four church steeples in the middle of downtown Greeneville, adding to the ambiance and romance of the location. The terrace can accommodate up to 500 guests for a cocktail reception, while the gorgeous grand ballroom can accommodate up to 400 guests (250 if a seated meal). Patricia describes that most events are around 200 guests, and whether you’re looking for an outdoor venue or indoor splendor, the General Morgan Inn truly can provide the best of both worlds. The décor and colors are powerful, yet subtle – the perfect combination for a truly memorable occasion.

2. The catering services are tried and true.

When it comes to food, you simply can’t beat that of an historic hotel! Many of these hotels host award-winning restaurants within that serve even the most eclectic palates on a daily basis, so you can rest assured that your wedding catering will be oh-so-scrumptious, even to your most discerning guests.

Within the General Morgan Inn is the renowned Brumley’s Restaurant, whose talented team regularly creates mouthwatering masterpieces for large events such as weddings at the venue. Specialty menus with any cuisine you prefer are available, so you can rest easy knowing that your guests will have amazing food to highlight and complement the celebration. While Patricia says that buffets are the most popular option, the catering team can accommodate any serving style. They can also host a bar at your event. Staff members provide everything that your guests will need for their meals – from glassware to flatware and everything in-between. They’re happy to set-up, break-down, and clean-up for your event, too.

3. The guest rooms are glorious and located at the same place as the venue.

Nothing says “thank you for coming” to your guests more than giving them the gift of convenience, especially when they’ve traveled from afar to be with you on the most important day of your life. This is just one reason why I love the idea of hotel wedding venues. But, why not take it a step further and give your guests a truly memorable stay in an historic hotel? They’ll be completely impressed with the luxurious, unique amenities.

The General Morgan Inn has fifty guest rooms and one Presidential Suite, all expertly decorated to make sure that your guests have everything they need while staying in beautiful Greeneville, Tennessee.

The General Morgan Inn boasts the perfect combination of impressive physical amenities and experienced, dedicated staff members that anticipate your every move. In fact, when I called for my interview, Bob had already arranged for Patricia to join in on our conversation – something I was literally just one step behind him in asking for! Apparently, though, that’s the norm as the General Morgan Inn. “We take weddings very seriously,” Bob details, “which is why our level of service is always tip-top.”

As for the details, Patricia has worked tirelessly for 16 years at the General Morgan Inn to make sure every need, wish, and desire of a bride is met for her big day. She is the couple’s contact person for the wedding day, coordinating every detail to perfection and even regularly directing the reception at events. “We can customize everything for you,” Patricia explains. “We’re small enough that you are our priority, yet experienced enough to make your dream come true.”

They’re flexible, too. You’re allowed to bring in your own wedding professionals outside of catering and bartenders, since General Morgan Inn already provides such services, and they’re located in the heart of a bustling area for your guests to enjoy. Being a boutique-style hotel makes the General Morgan Inn easily prepped to handle last-minute issues at any of the 20-25 weddings they host each year, in addition to the many proms and reunions hosted within the beautiful historic hotel as well.
