I don’t know about you, but I feel better with a little sun-kissed glow on my skin especially on big days! However, I don’t want to put my skin through the damage. Enter spray tans! Now before you say anything, I too have been a victim of bad spray tans (read: orange, oompa loompa skin) and there is photographic evidence of those bad spray tans. Yeesh. So, I understand being a little cautious. On your such a special day wearing white of all colors, of course, you don’t want to look streaky or orange. Whether you’re a spray tan pro or a true beginner, these 10 tips are sure to help you get the best spray tan for your wedding day!
1. Trials are a must!
Do not decide to get a spray tan for your wedding the day before. That is a one way street to disappointment! Instead, start 4 months out to find your perfect shade and to get a good idea of how long it lasts.
2. Shave/wax in advance!
Be sure to shave or wax at least 24 hours before your spray tan. You want any inflammation or redness to reside before you get sprayed.
3. Exfoliate! Exfoliate! Exfoliate!
This is a definite! You don’t want to tan over dead skin cells that are about to fall off anyways! Exfoliating will not only give your skin a boost, but also prep it for the best base for your tan!
4. Pat, don’t rub!
After a shower, be sure to pat your skin with your towel. Be sure not to rub. Rubbing will remove some of the skin cells that has been tanned.
5. Don’t forget moisturizer!
Moisturizer is your best friend when it comes to spray tanning! This will help boost your glow and keep your skin hydrated to extend that tan!
6. Keep it natural.
While we all want a little bit of a beauty boost on our big day, we still want to look natural and ourselves. When it comes to the shade you choose, keep in mind that these photos will be shared all over social media, hung up in your house, and looked at forever. You don’t want to be 10x darker than you normally are.
7. There’s no rule to sticking to one shade.
You don’t have to have one shade to use for your entire body. Ask your tanning professional if they can go lighter on the face than your body or highlight certain areas.
8. SPF is still a necessity!
Just because you are now a bronzed goddess doesn’t mean that you can skip the SPF! With or without a spray tan, your skin can still burn!
9. Watch out for your white clothing.
In your trials and pre-wedding spray tans, be sure to test them against white clothing. Since you’ll be in your wedding dress all day from photos to the sweaty dance floor at night, you’re going to want to have a good idea of what that will look like.
10. Two days for the real deal!
As for the actual wedding spray tan, don’t get this any sooner than two days before the wedding. This will let it settle into your skin and give you a change to buff out any problem areas.
Here’s to the best spray tan of your life!
