My birthday is in September. I always have a “birthday month” that we try to find something fun to do every weekend! Last September, we went to the beach for Labor Day and then went to the University of Tennessee and Florida game, and our last trip was to Nashville for the Warrior Dash and Titans game. I might have suspected he was going to ask at the beach or the UT game. When he didn’t, I pretty much gave up. The Warrior Dash was on September 22, 2012. He proposed at the finish line, covered in mud and all. It was probably one of the most shocking moments of my life but I honestly can’t imagine a better proposal.
I considered myself a very laid-back bride. I let my girls pick out their dresses and the groomsmen just had to have a black suit. We didn’t care where from, just as long as it was black. We picked blue and pink as our colors. That was one of the hardest things just because so many colors look good together.
On our wedding day, I almost managed not to cry the entire day. There was a misunderstanding with the makeup at the mall, but luckily, the fabulous ladies of Lancome were there to help out. I think it worked out the way it was supposed to because my makeup ended up being flawless. I had a freak out moment before I walked down the aisle. Not because I was nervous about marrying Patrick – he is the best thing that has ever happened to me – but because I do not like people looking at me. My dad actually did a very good job at calming my nerves. He talked me down the aisle. We actually talked about where my dog was and who was watching her – ha! The perfect distraction. Once I made it to the end and was handed off to Patrick, the biggest weight felt like it had been lifted, and I felt like I could really enjoy the day.
My mom sang our first dance. She is an amazing singer and looked so beautiful while doing it. That was the only other time I teared up. The reception went off perfectly with no mess-ups! My mother-in-law did the set up for us that day, so I had no doubt that it would look perfect, and it did. All of our centerpieces turned out better than I even imagined! I can honestly say that I feel like I had the BEST photographer. I did not want your typical photos. I wanted some fun, unique ones. She did the perfect job of making sure that’s what we got. She went above and beyond for us, and I feel like we have all of our best memories in photos!
