Winter weddings tend to conjure up images of cozy fireplaces, a beautiful light snow, and maybe some delicious hot chocolate for your guests! When planning your nuptials for the cold weather months, it can be helpful to know what cake flavors go particularly well with a winter wedding.
I talked with Katie of Maryville-based bakery KupKatie’s KupKakes to get the scoop on some amazing cupcakes flavors to try for a winter wedding! Make sure you check out a prior interview we did with Katie as well as an earlier post highlighting why cupcakes are a great idea for your wedding reception.
1. Anything chocolate!
Chocolate lovers, rejoice! Winter is a lovely time for all things chocolate, and your wedding is no exception. KupKatie’s KupKakes has a whole bunch of chocolate cupcakes on the menu, but Katie especially recommends the Hot Chocolate and White Hot Chocolate with adorable mini marshmallows or the Chocolate Covered Strawberry – a yummy chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting topped with a strawberry and chocolate drizzle!
When it comes to this traditional holiday dessert, it seems most people either love it or hate it. If you’re part of the former group, for a holiday-inspired wedding, this flavor would be perfect! Katie talks about her Fruitcake cupcake describing it as a delicious twist on the traditional cake you see around the holidays.
3. Traditional Wedding Cake
Whether you want to use this flavor for all the cupcakes served at your winter wedding or make it part of the selection you offer guests, you can never go wrong with simple white cake. Katie notes this is one of her most popular flavors for weddings anytime of the year.
4. Pumpkin Cheesecake
While this cupcake flavor is very popular in the fall, Katie tells us it’s one that brides often request for winter weddings as well. Pumpkin lovers will positively delight in this pumpkin cupcake containing pumpkin cheesecake filling and topped with cream cheese frosting and pumpkin spice cookies!
5. Italian Cream
If you’re a bride with simple yet classic tastes, this flavor would be great to add to the selection you’re offering guests at your reception. Katie notes this Italian cream cake topped with coconut cream cheese frosting is one of her most popular cupcake flavors for weddings in the cold weather months.
6. Banana Pudding
Although this dessert is found throughout the country, it’s commonly associated with Southern U.S. cuisine. Katie suggests pairing this yummy cupcake flavor (along with any other unique flavor from the menu) with a simple flavor, such as the traditional wedding cake, to give your guests a nice selection of cupcakes to choose from on your big day!
