Oh, rainy days. So many brides find themselves in a riot days before the big day over the weather forecast! However, we recently chatted with the truly amazing Katherine Birkbeck of Katherine Birkbeck Photography about why rain on your wedding day just might be the best occurrence ever – at least for your photos! Should you let rain ruin the happiest day of your life? We vote no, especially with Katherine’s five top reasons below.

1. Rain really does make for beautiful pictures.
Katherine loves to use the natural light available in a space, especially when the couple can be illuminated from behind. It highlights the rain! “This makes incredibly romantic pictures,” states Katherine. We absolutely agree.

2. Be ready to ‘roll with the punches.’
Does the forecast give you a 100% chance of rain? Embrace it! Many beautiful rain-themed favors and cake toppers are available for your big day, and we think each one is completely adorable. Katherine says you should focus on the beauty of the day, and trust your photographer to document every moment. Also, be sure your Plan B is totally in-tact before the big day!

3. Believe in the superstition!
Rejoice that rain on your wedding day may be good luck. However, “Maybe…don’t say it!” exclaims Katherine. Many brides don’t want to hear the superstition chanted into their ears while watching the rain pour down. Afterwards though, they’ll believe the luck! Besides adorable photo ops, your guests can have fun with a rainy event, too. “Buy umbrellas with your wedding colors, and have rain boots that match as well,” suggests Katherine. In other words, have fun out in the rain.

4. Photos after the rain are simply magnificent, too.
You know that calm, clean look and scent right after a good rain? It’s completely beautiful on a wedding day. Trust us!  “Your surroundings will pop,” explains Katherine, “and colors are incredibly vibrant after the rain!” Simply put, pictures after the rain are peaceful and beautiful, and your photos will reflect this.

5. Perspective pictures absolutely rock.
Katherine is an expert at getting perspective pictures…including dewy window shots, reflections in rain puddles, and the framing effects of arches, columns, and other surroundings that help highlight the beauty of the weather. Don’t let less-than-sunny weather ruin your day! Instead, trust your photographer to make the day look as fabulous as you let it be. After all, you’re marrying the man or woman of your dreams. Celebrate!

Abby White, the bride featured in the picture directly above, describes rain on her wedding day like this: “I spent my whole life planning my wedding day, down to the smallest detail, and one of my biggest fears was that it would rain.  Well not only did it rain on our wedding day, it was a complete downpour!! I love this picture because it takes something that seemed so terrible and creates something beautiful out of it.  The raindrops make this picture unique and special, and I think it is just so sweet!  It looks like you [Katherine Birkbeck] captured a stolen moment between the two of us on an incredible and hectic day!”
