Cigar bars are increasing in popularity at weddings – both for the groomsmen before the nuptials and for guests during the reception.
While planning this portion of your celebration may seem easy, you should keep a few tips in mind before settling all the details! Read on for five simple tips to hosting the perfect cigar bar for your wedding.
Make sure your venue will allow a cigar bar!
Many wedding venues prohibit smoking of any kind on the premises, so be sure you have the green light before lighting up a cigar on the big day. If the venue manager says you can smoke on the property, ask to get this in writing – especially if only certain areas of the venue offer smoking zones.
Commonly prohibited spaces include anywhere indoors, on outside patios close to the doors (where smoke could easily waft in from outside), and anywhere that presents a fire hazard. Also, be sure to note the venue’s policies regarding where guests can throw away cigars after they’re finished with them. (They likely will frown upon guests leaving cigar butts or ashes on the ground.)
Stock your cigar bar with premium options.
As with any consumable item, not all products are created equal. Task your man or his groomsmen to select premium cigars for the bar prior to ordering them. Consider having two or three different blends (mild, medium, rich/robust) or flavors. Also consider more than one size, such as a mini cigarillo. This will accommodate what your guests may prefer, whether lady or gentleman!
Include all the necessary items.
Stock your bar with items like crystal ashtrays, cigar cutters, lighters and even a small wastebasket to keep the area clear as guests select, prepare, and light their cigars. Consider storing the cigar selections in humidors to protect them from the elements throughout the evening, too.
Don’t forget to include amazing signs!
Welcome your guests to the party with details inviting them to try the goods. If you have different blends or flavors, also include little signs that describe what guests will experience with each option.
Add in a signature drink or snack and plenty of small tables and chairs nearby.
Consider adding a signature drink or dessert station near the cigar bar for guests to enjoy alongside their cigars. Other options like tables and chairs (or even an activity or two!) will invite good conversation throughout the evening. Of course, have an ashtray available for every table.
