Knoxville wedding photographer Jaimie with premier East Tennessee photography company, Jaimie Carl Photography, has a deep passion for giving clients the gift of memories.

Jaimie has childhood memories of falling in love with old photos stored in family suitcases. Those memories help illustrate her love for the art of photography.

“It’s so hard for me to put into words why I do what I do,” she details. “I love photography…I always have. I cannot pinpoint that exact moment in time when I decided, ‘I’m going to be a photographer when I grow up,’ but I can remember sitting in front of these suitcases full of photos that my mom had, just sorting through them, mesmerized.”

Photography is such an integral part of Jaimie’s life that she uses it as an escape when life gets a little hectic. Cherished family photos, including one of her uncle, are part of a collection she keeps nearby to lift her spirits.

“One day,” she states, “I came across a photo of my uncle (a man I was never able to meet, but whom I was named after), a helicopter pilot in the US Army. He was suited up, getting ready to fly. I sat there holding it, just looking at it, studying it. It’s now in a keepsake box where I put it that day, along with other photos that make me feel better when life gets a little hard.”

Photos aren’t just a captured moment in time to Jaimie; they’re a memory that offers a priceless connection to the past.

“When you can pick up a picture, look at it and feel like you’re there – it’s a pretty amazing feeling,” she describes.

Jaimie followed her passion for photography and decided to study it while in school – something she attributes to her professional growth and continued passion.

She details, “When the time rolled around to decide what I wanted to go to school for, I decided I had always had a camera in my hand, so why not go to school and see what it’s all about. I was fascinated with all of it.”

Those classes were exactly where her talents and interests aligned!

“I can honestly say those 6pm-9pm classes were some of the most fun I’ve had in school,” she adds.

Being a wedding photographer wasn’t always the plan for Jaimie Carl Photography, though.

She originally planned to specialize in newborn photography, but quickly changed her focus after falling in love with photographing weddings.

“Throughout school, my plan was to specialize in newborn photography until a friend of mine asked me to photograph her wedding,” Jaimie says. “After that, I was hooked. The raw, pure emotion of a wedding is contagious, and I love it!”

Jaimie loves giving her clients the gift of memories. Sometimes, those photos can even create new memories the bride and groom missed on wedding day!

“When a bride and groom can look back at their wedding photographs and see moments they don’t remember or didn’t see – like the excitement and happiness on their guests’ faces, the way the bride’s dad looks at her when he first sees her in her dress, the mother of the groom tearing up during their dance together, the groom, a guy that never cries, crying when he sees his bride walk down the aisle – and feel that emotion all over again,” she details, “that’s the moment I know I’ve done my job to the fullest extent. I love giving a couple not just a photograph, but a memory for them to relive and share with their kids and grandkids.”

Jaimie Carl Photography boasts a lovely mix of photojournalistic photography style with portraiture, all with a healthy respect for natural lighting.

“I take a photojournalistic approach to photographing weddings,” Jaimie explains, “with just a hint of portraiture in the mix. I’m an addict when it comes to natural light and the mood of individual situations.”

Jaimie’s approach to providing professional photography services on your big day is steeped deeply in trust and individual attention.

She doesn’t just step in the day-of, photograph your wedding, and then leave. Jaimie focuses on cultivating an actual relationship with her clients that fosters understanding and trust. This often lasts long after the big day!

“I want to get to know my brides and grooms, their style, and what makes their love unique,” Jaimie details. “Everyone has a different vision for his or her big day, and I want to explore that vision with them and be sure to capture it in a way that speaks to each individual couple. I want them to be comfortable enough with me to not have to worry about anything on their wedding day and to trust me enough to not only call me their photographer, but by the end of it, to be able to call me their friend.”

Jaimie explains, “I’m not the photographer that wants to just stop at your wedding day. I want to tell your story, the whole story, from engagement to the wedding, to your first child, all the way through their wedding day. I want to be there to capture all those special memories and moments and give that gift to my clients.”

“Within the next few years,” Jaimie states, “I hope to be able to make my business my one and only job! I would love to work with local vendors and be more active in the wedding/photography community to bring new and exciting ideas to the table.”
