LOVE STORY: Daniel and I met at UTC while working on our degrees in Business. We were friends for a few years and took several classes together. We spent a lot of time together working on group projects and studying, and our friendship slowly turned into more.
Daniel proposed to me at our apartment. I had to work late that day, and when I got home, he had created a scavenger hunt for me that started at the front door. Inside our apartment, he had candles everywhere and left me clues. The final clue was in our room..the card said we were going out to celebrate the end of my first semester of Grad School at my favorite restaurant. Before we started getting ready to leave, he told me he needed to ask me something. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
WEDDING DETAILS: When we started the planning process, Daniel and I both knew we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us. We are both fairly laid-back and fun-loving, so we wanted everything to reflect that. It was important to us that everyone in and at our wedding felt comfortable and welcome!
We wanted our wedding be just that, OURS! Instead of using traditional wedding ceremony music, we chose songs that we both liked and that reflected our eccentric taste in music…think country and Led Zeppelin! We also chose to incorporate things from our families. We used old windows from my family’s old farm house as guest books, had wedding pictures of our parents, grandparents, and great grandparent’s as guests entered the reception, and since our parents had the same wedding song we used it in our ceremony.
We did not have many DIY projects, because I am not all that crafty. However, my parents surprised us with Mr. and Mrs. signs for our sweet heart table and a Just Married sign for my dad’s Corvette that my dad had made for us. We created our favor table using old baskets from my family’s farm house and an old piece of barn wood.
Our colors were something that we picked immediately. We chose to use ivory, corals, yellows, and peaches in the flowers and a muted gold/champagne in the linens to create the warm, inviting feeling that we wanted. I chose navy for my bridesmaids and Daniel chose grey for his groomsmen.
MARRIAGE ADVICE: A few pieces of advice I would share with couples planning a wedding are to remain focused on the purpose of the day, make decisions together and once they are made stick to them, and remember that this day is not just about you; your parents and families helped get you both to this day, and it is just as special for them.
