When you’re in the midst of holiday season and it feels like the cold of Winter is never going to end, it’s hard to believe that Summer really is just around the corner. But believe me, when it comes to wedding planning, Summer is practically already here! At 6 months prior to your wedding, there are a handful of things that you need to check off on your wedding planning checklist. So if you’re one of the couples who are planning a lovely Summer wedding, here is what you need to be doing right now!

1. Hire Your Photographer

We feel that choosing your photographer should be one of your first steps in your wedding planning process. For one, what better way to announce your wedding date than with some beautiful professional pictures of the two of you?? Additionally, in-demand photographers like the immensely talented J. Michelle Photography book up quick, and you don’t want to miss out on having the most important day of your life captured by an amazing photographer like Michelle!

2. Set a Date and Venue

These two sort of go hand in hand; you can’t choose a venue without knowing what day your wedding is! And remember, there are a lot of couples getting married in the Summer. This means that, like photographers, venues get booked up quickly. You want to get this decided and settled ASAP so you can get married at the venue of your dreams!

3. Go Dress Shopping

You definitely want to start shopping for your wedding gown at around 6 months prior to the day of the wedding. It can take some time to find the perfect dress for you, and the last thing you want is to feel like you’re running out of time and just need to pick a dress! Give yourself time to shop around and really consider what you want. Not to mention, if your dress needs alterations you want to have the time for that to be completed as well.

4. Book Remaining Wedding Professionals

Give yourself the opportunity to build a good relationship with all of your wedding professionals! If you choose your wedding planner, caterer, florist, and stylist 5-6 months before the big day, it gives you time to talk through all your ideas with them and allows them to help you perfect those ideas.

5. Work On Your Theme

This doesn’t have to be set in stone quite yet, but now is the time to start working on the theme and style of your wedding. Once you have a general idea of how you want your wedding to look, the rest of the planning will be a lot easier and more efficient. Getting your thoughts organized early on makes the whole process much more enjoyable!

Before you know it, the cold blustery Winter days will be behind us and Summer will be here. For those who are planning a Summer wedding, the work starts now! At the 6 month mark there are a handful of things to be working on in preparation for your wedding day, so get started on step number 1 and give J. Michelle Photography a call!
