I had no idea the proposal was coming. It was our fifth anniversary, and he was making crab legs and filet mignon for dinner with brownies for dessert (my favorite!). He had originally planned to write, “Will you marry me,” in icing on the brownies. Unfortunately, he had to scrap that plan as I saw the tube of icing and asked why he was planning on ruining the brownies by adding icing. I told him not to put any on mine! OOPS! So, while the brownies were still in the oven, he got down on one knee in our dining room and asked me to marry him.
It took almost two years to plan our wedding. Since our families live on opposite sides of the country (my parents in Florida, and his in Minnesota and Michigan) we decided to get married here in Tennessee. We chose Gatlinburg, instead of Knoxville, so that our families could stay in cabins and turn the trip into a vacation.
In the week leading up to the wedding, the chance of rain kept increasing for our wedding day. Although the last thing I wanted was rain, I had to make the decision to embrace whatever the weather was like that day, so I brought my Coach rain boots and made sure we had plenty of umbrellas! I’m glad we were prepared because it definitely poured non-stop the ENTIRE weekend. In spite of the rain, we had a beautiful ceremony and reception. I tried really hard to take everything in and remember every moment of our wedding day. Seeing Rob for the “first look” was such an amazing moment. He looked so handsome standing there in his tux!
Our ceremony was so special. We surprised my parents by playing the song they walked down the aisle to while my bridesmaids entered the church (the theme from “Chariots of Fire”), and we chose to write our own vows. It was so amazing to have so many people who love and support us in one room. The reception seemed to fly by. The food, flowers and decor were amazing! It was so neat to see all of the details come together so perfectly for one amazing event!
We absolutely loved all of our vendors, but hiring KLP Photography and Nicholas & Keaton Cinematography was HANDS DOWN the best planning decision we made. They really helped keep things on track, kept me calm with their confidence and positive attitudes, and helped select alternative locations for photos given the fact it was pouring outside. KLP offered a free rain check session as part of her contract, so we were able to get all dressed up again after the wedding and get those beautiful outdoor photos she is known for!
