Keri and Cody’s romantic, Old World inspired wedding day was complete with nods to her Scottish heritage, amazing attire, and an ethereal garden party atmosphere. Truly, we can’t get enough of the details of this wedding! Keri was so intentional in each decision to not only create a cohesive theme, but also to tie in their personalities as well! For instance, the clever election pin favors since they both work on Capitol Hill! We could go on and on, but we’ll let you find out more from the bride herself below with STUN-NING photos by Tara Kneiser Photography!

How did you meet?

“In law school, we were in different years, but we had the same friends. He kept hanging around me when I worked at the reference desk and we became friends. I knew he was something special to me when, at my birthday dinner, he took my hand to help me walk down the uneven stone sidewalk. I was wearing heels and was struggling to make my way down the street. I wasn’t expecting his help, but when he took my arm, I knew he was going to be more than a friend.”

When did you know you were falling in love?

“It was a series of small moments. He had started studying for the bar exam and it takes a lot of focus. When we got a moment together, we talked about the future and what we wanted in life. We had our own goals and supported each other’s accomplishments. With each step we took, we realized we were heading in the same direction and knew we would be together.”

What is your favorite quality in your husband?

“He’s my rock. He makes me laugh when I’m down and supportive when things are rough. He’s just so steady.”

What traditions did you incorporate?

“We did not do a first look. We knew we wanted to save that moment at the altar. I’m so glad we had that moment. Also, we added bagpipes to our traditional ceremony. We wanted tradition but with a twist.”

Did you have a specific theme or design inspiration for your big day?

“I chose my venues based on how old world English they felt. Both the church and the reception had beautiful wood ceilings. I wanted a garden like feeling and layers of floral texture. I talked to my florist about using inspiration from the Dutch masters with candles and fresh blooms under glass domes. We even incorporated some of the sugar flowers I made for the wedding. Our wedding day happened to also be National Tartan Day and we had added nods to my family’s Scottish heritage. We added tartan touches and of course bagpipes!”

How about your dress or attire?

“I ordered my Hayley Paige dress from White Lace and Promises. I saw it in a magazine and I looked for something like it, but nothing beats the real thing. I had to order the sample gown from Texas to try on because no one had it, but it was worth it! The lace is what sold me. I had the back remade to include covered buttons. I added a cathedral length raw silk veil to add some drama.

I also had two pairs of shoes. For the ceremony I wore blue velvet shoes from Tory Burch for my something blue, and for the reception I wore ivory Badgley Mischka ones. I wore my grandmother’s French perfume in her memory. I skipped jewelry (but for my rings) and went with a floral hair piece from Liv Hart. The groom wore a bespoke classic tux. For the bridal party we mixed patterns. The groomsmen wore tuxes with blackwatch tartan jackets from The Black Tux and the bridesmaids wore florals print Jenny Yoo dresses.”

What was the most memorable moment?

“Walking down the aisle! An organist and cellist played for the guests, family, and wedding party, but we saved the bagpipes for last. After the bridesmaids had walked in, the bagpipers played a verse of Highland Cathedral which is this beautiful piece. The bagpiper walked down the aisle playing and as he started the second verse the organ joined in. It made for this full beautiful music piece. That’s when we had the doors open for my entrance. All the emotion and the music just made for an incredible moment for us. A guest later told me after the bagpipes and organ stopped, another guest turned to him and simply said, ‘epic.’”

What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?

“‘La Mer’ (aka ‘Beyond the Sea’) We asked our band if they could sing the French version. To my surprise they learned the French lyrics for us! I think it was a first for them. We wanted something classic and upbeat. The song is a representation of the journeys we haven taken in life and still were able to find each other.”

Tell us about your grand exit!

“We hired a vintage Rolls Royce keeping with the English theme. Even our driver was English!”
