Highschool sweethearts tying the knot? Always a yes from us! And this sweet couple will be sure to have you swooning within seconds, too! Joyce & Camren met in a math class years ago, and pulled together a wedding that was a perfect mix of his rustic style and her affinity for sparkles. See it all below with a special Q&A with the bride!
How did you meet?
“We met in math class in high school six years ago.”
What is your favorite quality in your husband?
“I love his compassion towards me and others. His heart never goes unnoticed. He is such a caring, genuine person.”
Who said “I love you” first?
“He said ‘I love you’ first one evening while we were on a date.”
When did you know you were falling in love?
“I was fifteen years old, so it was a time where I was all in my feelings, all the time. I always knew something was different about him. I couldn’t stop thinking about him, every time he was near me I couldn’t help but smile. I think it’s always hard to describe exactly how you felt during the moment you realized you were falling in love with someone, but it’s the greatest feeling in the world.”
Favorite aspect of your wedding?
“My favorite aspect of the wedding was really how well all the details were put together. I think the details were a perfect mixture of both of us.”
Did you have any specific design inspiration for your big day?
“I know I for sure wanted a rustic theme. I loved how well the color scheme went with navy and light pink. I wanted to incorporate both of our styles. He was the more rustic side. We added burlap and had the wedding at a barn. I love anything that catches the eye and sparkles so I opted for designs with chandeliers in our tree where we said our vows, I wanted a very simple, but also pretty look.”
Was there a part of your wedding that held a personal significance to you or your spouse?
“My favorite part of the wedding was how we wrote each other notes before the ceremony, confessing our love and happiness towards one another. My coordinator had us both on different sides of the white reveal door. I think it made us even more ready to see each other hours later.”
What was the hardest part of wedding planning?
“I think the hardest part for me was finding a photographer. I wanted to make sure someone could capture the vibe and personality of us and our wedding. I searched for months to actually book the one I was most confident about.”
Did you do a first look? Would you recommend this?
“We did not do a first look. I think a couple knows what is best for them, I personally did not want to do a first look. We both agreed that we wanted to be old-fashioned and save the moment for when I walked down the aisle. I felt like it was such a powerful moment, I enjoyed letting everyone else that attended the wedding taking part in that special moment for both of us.”
What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?
“Our first song was a little different. We knew we would be slow dancing the night away anyways, so we wanted to put a fun twist on our first dance. We started to dance to ‘Speechless’ by Dan and Shay, but we had told our DJ to cut off the music halfway through. We wanted a surprise for our guests and wanted to make everyone loosen up.
The DJ made a scratch sound in the system and everyone thought something was wrong with the music. He then began playing the hit song ‘Old Town Road; and we started our choreographed dance. I think it was something different and was a way to let everyone know how not only are we husband and wife, but we are also best friends. It was something fun that I know everyone still remembers. WBIR news channel from Knoxville actually heard about it through social media and featured it on the news!”
Tell us about your grand exit!
“We ended our night with a dance and that’s how we exited towards our vehicle. The DJ played a song and we gathered up with our bridesmaids/groomsman and danced to end the night. We opted out of a sparkler send-off because I wanted something a little different and we previously had taken pictures with just the wedding party holding sparklers over our heads.”
What do you look forward to most as newlyweds?
“I look forward to us spending time together and growing as a couple. I look forward to being able to spend all the time in the world with my person and start our lives together.”
What has surprised you most during the first few months of marriage?
“During the first few months of marriage, I honestly didn’t think much will change. We have been together for going on six years so I knew nothing would change much, but I actually feel a stronger connection now that we are married. Saying vows to one another I feel made us have a deeper connection just because we know we are fully in and finally married. I didn’t think it would feel that different, but it’s so amazing doing life with your best friend.”
