What happens when you put an extremely artistic lady into her first college photography class? Well, if you’re Renée Parsons of Tennessee wedding photography company Two Sparks Wedding Photography, you find your life’s calling. Beginning her college career in digital media with a concentration in animation required a basic photography class, and she fell in love immediately. “That’s all it took for me to double major in photography – one taste of shooting portraits, and I knew it was something I wanted to do,” Renée explains. Fast forward a few years and quite a few photography classes later, and she was approached by one of her friends to photograph a wedding. This was the first of many weddings to come, but Renée was still a few years away from founding Two Sparks Wedding Photography.

At the end of her college career, Renée met her now-husband Jonathan, another digital media major. After a little work at it, she finally convinced him to assist on her next wedding as a second shooter. “Secretly, I think he wanted to do it anyway!” Renée laughs. Turns out, he fell in love with it just as much as she did, and the two formed a partnership and company focused on wedding photography – called Two Sparks Wedding Photography. The rest is history!

So what exactly does the duo love about weddings? “Some people do this as a job, but we do it because it’s a joy,” Renée states. What gives them the most joy? “It’s definitely the people,” she adds. “We love the time we get to spend with the bride and groom, helping them enjoy and remember their special day forever. Spending time with people on the happiest day of their lives…come on, you gotta love that!”

Naturally, as a wife and husband team, it’s also tons of fun to work alongside your sweetie all day long! It’s also incredibly helpful. “I can’t tell you how valuable this is for us!” Renée exclaims. “We know each other’s strengths, and we know how to work with one another. We know who’s going to capture what and how we’re going to do it. It’s really a pleasure to work together.” This is also why, with Two Sparks Wedding Photography, you always get two professional photographers at your wedding. From there, you’ll get hours of coverage, copies of your images, storybook albums, photo prints, canvases, and more, all based on your package selection. Two Sparks makes sure to work with some of the most incredible printers in the industry so that your products look amazing and are of outstanding quality for a lifetime.

As for style, Renée and Jonathan describe it as unique – which is something they love about the way they work. “We absolutely love natural light,” the couple elaborates. “We like to take the warmth and beauty of natural light and even it out with natural reflectors to produce photos that make the subjects look amazing. Without natural light, we’ll take lighting from flashes and/or strobes to produce a comparable effect.” What you get are vivid replicas of your memories! That’s not the biggest reason why their photography is unique, however. It’s really all about the way they pose and work with their brides and grooms to get each amazing shot. “Who doesn’t like opening a bridal magazine and looking at all the incredible photography?” Renée asks rhetorically. “Page after page of brides in beautiful dresses, advertising everything from shoes to makeup… We like to capture our brides in this elegant fashion photography style. It accentuates what makes a woman beautiful and allows the man to be the cool, collected groom that he is.” Well put, Renée!

That love of the perfectly posed, yet modern look on your wedding day is only a portion of what Two Sparks Wedding Photography captures. They absolutely adore capturing those important moments and little details for you to cherish for years to come, too. “We thoroughly enjoy capturing real moments of pure emotion,” the couple states. “Each wedding is flooded with them, from the time the bride and groom first see each other to the dad crying during the first dance with his daughter. It’s a pleasure to be there for each of these moments, and we work hard to make sure these emotions are documented in a way that you’ll never forget.”

What makes Two Sparks Wedding Photography different from other photographers providing similar services? While Renée and Jonathan both have a lot of respect for the other wedding photographers serving East Tennessee, they do recognize their differences. “We truly love the work of a lot of other professionals in the industry; there’s a lot of talent here,” Jonathan states. “That said, our style definitely makes us different. Likely due to our area, there’s a lot of traditional-style photographers doing excellent work. We’re not traditional. Yes, we’ll take a few traditional shots for grandmothers and parents of the bride and groom, but we focus on taking pictures that could be featured in a fashion magazine – photos that are modern and express the love between a bride and groom in a fresh way.” That’s not all that sets them apart, though. It also really helps that they’re a young couple themselves! Being in love, in their late 20s, and working as a wife and husband team allows them to relate personally to their clients, who are normally in similar stages of life. In fact, the couple frequently ends up calling former clients friends for years to come.

Where will you see Two Sparks Wedding Photography in a few years? Naturally, with so much education behind their work, Renée and Jonathan will stay at the forefront of technological advances to ensure that they can always provide the best for their brides. “We will definitely continue to enhance our modern style and create more and more beautiful photos and memories with each wedding and engagement,” Renée states. “We love our company slogan, and it does summarize what we do, where our company is now, and what we will be going forward.” That slogan is Get Real. Get Fresh. Get Captured., and Renée went on to explain what each of these statements stands for below.

Get Real. “This is simple: we help couples to be real in front of our cameras so we can take photos filled with true emotion and create beautiful memories.”

Get Fresh. “Hey! You’re getting married, right? So why not get “fresh” with one another. In other words, we have the couples get close, smile big, and show that they love each other!”

Get Captured. “This covers everything else, from those cool shots of everyone running at the camera jumping to that bride and groom shot that could have been ripped from the pages of Vogue.”

What else do Renée and Jonathan want you to know about Two Sparks Wedding Photography? “Ultimately, Two Sparks is a wedding photography company that focuses on weddings in the Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol areas. But we travel too, and do so often. We love what we do, and we love the people we are privileged to work with. We’re both Christians, and it plays a pivotal part in who we are, how we live our lives, and run our business. We thank God for the business we have and the opportunities we’ve been blessed with. We wouldn’t be doing what we do without the love of Christ.”
