I just adore surprise fall engagements. This East Tennessee proposal in the mountains will knock your socks off!
Austin and the photographer planned the perfect surprise for Nikki by secretly plotting to take over her pre-scheduled fall portrait session with a proposal. They pulled it off in a beautiful collection I can’t wait to share with you today!
Nikki and Austin held small chalkboards with secret messages on them just before the big surprise proposal.
Austin wrote sweet love letters to Nikki and handed them to her towards the end of the photo shoot. What happened next is the stuff of dreams! Read on for details about this lovely proposal.

How they met…
Austin and I met a little over two years ago when I had gone to a little diner in Cleveland, Tennessee, where we both live. We hit it off and ended up talking every day after that until we went on our first date. I never really believed in “love at first sight,” but I finally realized what people meant by that saying after I met Austin. It truly was love at first sight. I knew from the start that there was something special about him. After our first date, we continued to see each other often. He finally officially asked me to be his girlfriend, and we’ve been together ever since.
He proposed back in October (which I still am swooning about). I originally booked a fall portrait session with the photographer who has been a long-time family friend. Somewhere along the lines, Austin began talking with Braska (the photographer) and planned the whole surprise proposal, which Braska would capture during our session. We met Braska at the lookout in the Chilhowee Mountains and began taking a few pictures there. We ventured on up the mountain until we arrived at the Chilhowee Lake. This is where I started getting an idea that something else was going to take place. Austin handed me a stack of envelopes tied together with twine and told me that I was not to open them until he told me to. As we were taking pictures Braska gave each of us a chalkboard sign that already had something secret drawn on them, which we weren’t allowed to look at. We weren’t supposed to see what the signs said until we got our pictures back (but she gave in at the end of the session). We finished taking pictures at the lake and then drove to another overlook, where there was a gazebo. We continued to take pictures, and then Austin said it was finally time for me to open the first letter. As I read the letter, I realized that this was his proposal. After I was done reading and looked up, Austin was down on one knee and popped the question. I said yes of course! After all of the excitement and many more pictures, Braska couldn’t wait and showed us what the chalkboard signs said in our pictures. The sign that Austin was holding had a picture of a ring and said, “She has no clue!” Mine simply had a heart and said, “I (heart) Him!” The stack of letters that Austin gave me had a total of 12 letters with the top one being the proposal. As for the other 11 letters, Austin wanted me to open one letter a day until I had read them all. Each letter was a reason why he wanted to marry me. He truly is the sweetest!
We’re aiming for a southern/vintage chic wedding with an outdoor ceremony and a reception in a rustic barn. Our official wedding date is October 8th, 2016. I’m so excited that our engagement is being featured! After getting engaged, I immediately started wedding planning with help from The Pink Bride. I am so excited to attend the Pink Bridal Show next January!
