Tell us about the love story.

Sage and I started dating at the age of 14. We had mutual friends and were introduced at church. It was an instant attraction, and after a few long phone conversations, he asked me to be his girlfriend before we ever even went on a date! We were together throughout high school and college and were so lucky to have grown up together!

Sage is a musician and proposed after singing a song that he wrote for me. All throughout our relationship, he told me that I would know when he was going to propose because he would finally get up the courage to sing for me, so I started crying as soon as he started! Our engagement was only six months, which was somewhat of a challenge. I live in Atlanta, and my mom lives outside of Los Angeles, so most of the planning was finished from a distance and on a few long weekend trips.

Recap your big day.

Our wedding was outside on the lake, and it rained the entire day until two hours before the ceremony. It was so bad that the power even went out as we were trying to get ready! I was amazed at how the clouds parted and so many people helped get everything ready in time.

My most memorable moment was walking down the aisle and seeing everything come together with the perfect scenery and weather, surrounded by friends and family. I was also so lucky to have my uncle and father marry us. My uncle did the first part of the ceremony so my dad could walk me down the aisle, and my dad did the last part. Our wedding colors were all neutral, with whites, ivories, and tans, which looked beautiful against the mountain backdrop. We wanted our wedding to be timeless and classic.

How did your groom help plan?

He was such a great help! I am very detail-oriented and loved doing all the planning, but he was there to do anything I asked. Some of our first decisions were location and invitations, which he chose!

List what you did that was unique for your wedding.

For the food, I wanted more of a cocktail party feel, so we had several food stations with lots of options. A very good family friend, Peggy Dixon, did the catering, and I was able to work very closely with her throughout the whole process. We had several items that were special to each of us. I love shrimp, so we had a seafood station with shrimp cocktail and a seafood salad. France is one of our favorite places in the world, so we had lots of French cheeses as well! My grandmother’s chocolate pie is legendary, and we had mini versions for the dessert station. Peggy is so creative and had some amazing ideas, and her team made the vision happen! The food was my favorite part of the wedding!

Is there anything you wish you’d done or had at your wedding?

Our only regret was that we didn’t go out with our bridal party after the reception! It would have been great to spend some extra quality time with our closest friends.

Detail your wedding professionals.

Our photographer Kadee was amazing. She is so sweet and makes you feel so comfortable! Her photography has a great mix of traditional and fun shots, which are ideal for a wedding! Our bridal shop was fantastic as well. They did all the bridal party attire, and the entire staff at Belmeade was always there to help with anything we needed. Selecting my dress was a perfect experience, and all my bridesmaids loved their dresses as well! Gary Thomas directed the wedding the day of and helped everything run smoothly! He has done weddings for many years and his expertise was more than we could have hoped for.

Tell us about your honeymoon.

For our honeymoon, we went to Playa del Carmen in Mexico. It was a great place to relax and enjoy being newlyweds.
