If your wedding has grown to epic sizes, or if you anticipate many more than the average amount of guests at a Tennessee wedding (usually somewhere between 150-250 depending on the region), you’ve likely worried a time or two about where to host your event. You’ve also probably wondered how to ensure that you don’t pull all your hair out during planning!

That’s why I chatted last month with Rebecca Williams, Director of Sales and Marketing at Knoxville wedding venue, Knoxville Convention Center, to learn what all you need to consider before booking your venue. The five simple tips below can make all the difference in your planning ease, progress, and stress level while arranging your big Tennessee wedding, so read on!

1. Space, space, space!
Not surprising, your biggest concern is space. Make sure that your venue has more than enough room for all of your guests to sit, walk around, and dance comfortably in. The last thing you want guests to feel is crowded! Also take into account plenty of entrances, exits, and restrooms to keep guests feeling comfortable throughout the evening.
The Knoxville Convention Center has multiple beautiful spaces fit for any size of wedding, including a 20,000 square-foot outdoor patio as well as many rooms, including a gorgeous ballroom able to fit 1,650+ for a seated meal. “We have many flexible options,” Rebecca details.

2. Plenty of convenient parking.

Nothing inconveniences your guests more than having nowhere to park for your event. When you’re anticipating a large guest count, expect a large amount of vehicles too!
Being a downtown locale, the Knoxville Convention Center is surrounded by convenient parking lots and garages. Rebecca details that the Center can provide maps of downtown with parking noted. City lots are free to park in during the evenings and on weekends, and you can use the trolley for guest transport if needed.

3. Guest hotels and recreation nearby.

Add to the convenience for your long list of likely out-of-towners by picking a venue located central to their hotel. Furthermore, having recreational activities and shopping nearby never hurts to help entertain your large guest list during down time on wedding weekend.
The Knoxville Convention Center is located in the heart of bustling downtown Knoxville, a vibrant mecca for art, boutique shopping, and site-seeing. Hotels are located literally on every corner of the Center, too, so guests could simply walk to your venue!

4. Knowledgeable and helpful event managers.
Since your event manager will likely help you with all the details for your day, it’s always handy when you can refer to him or her for advice about certain situations and details. Check to see whether or not you’re able to have one person in particular to speak with about your event at the venue, rather than a whole group (where your details may get lost in translation).

At the Knoxville Convention Center, Rebecca details that every single event has one event manager, and when food and beverage is involved, each event receives a food and beverage manager as well.

5. Experienced staff.

Weddings are a unique type of event because of all the anticipation, emotion, and details involved, so surrounding yourself with wedding professionals is imperative. This includes the staff members at your venue, especially when you’re hosting a large wedding! Experienced staff members help make your day a complete success because they are able to anticipate your needs and the needs of your guests before an issue arises.

The Knoxville Convention Center does quite a few weddings each year, and staff members are trained specifically to accommodate large events. They have a group that deals specifically with weddings and overseeing all of your details, and they’re also able to recommend impeccable wedding professionals to meet your every need.
