What would you recommend to every bride-to-be?

Remember you are basically planning a big party! Brides get so wrapped up in planning a “wedding” that we forget that it’s actually just all of our best friends and family coming to celebrate with us. My now-husband always reminded me of that, and it helped put everything in perspective.

Was the planning process as stressful as you imagined?

It wasn’t too bad, actually. We were engaged for about a year, so it felt like plenty of time to plan before our wedding. Making the guest list and sending out invitations, as well as getting back RSVPs, was the most stressful part for me.

What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?

Wonderful World by Otis Redding. It’s a simple song with a simple message. Basically, the lyrics say that we may not know a whole lot about a whole lot, but we do know that being together makes the world more fun.

Did you have a specific theme or design inspiration for your big day?

We got married on Lookout Mountain, and I wanted our wedding to reflect the outdoors while still being elegant. We went with plenty of flowers in colors that didn’t compete with the already-beautiful scenery. We kept most of the design, including the dresses, simple and natural-looking.

What was the most memorable moment?

The downside of getting married outside is that there are plenty of critters running around. One of our groomsmen stepped on a yellow jackets’ nest and sent them flying everywhere. After the initial panic of everyone trying to emergency exit down a muddy hill, it was pretty funny.

Tell us about your grand exit!

We ran down a path of sparklers lit by our guests. It was fun!

What is your favorite quality in your husband?

Jack is the most fun, hardest working, and kindest person around.

How would you describe your big day in 3 words?

Fun, beautiful, memorable
